We’re proud to share that documenting stories of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is no longer a challenge, thanks to the leadership of our dedicated youth champions. Over the past three days, in partnership with UNFPA Uganda under the #NOVOFGMUg Project, FGM survivors and youth champions have been empowered with essential skills in storytelling, documentation, and case reveal.

Transforming Experiences into Powerful Stories

For many survivors, sharing their experiences can be daunting. However, through targeted training and mentorship, participants learned how to safely and effectively document FGM cases, while amplifying their voices to inspire awareness and change. This approach allows communities to see the real-life impact of FGM, encouraging dialogue and informed action.

Youth champions are now equipped to lead initiatives that collect testimonies, record success stories, and report findings in ways that support advocacy and policy efforts. By turning personal and community experiences into well-documented narratives, they are contributing to a stronger, evidence-based fight against FGM.

Building Skills for Advocacy

The training emphasized practical tools such as interview techniques, photography, video documentation, and ethical reporting. Participants also learned how to protect the privacy and safety of survivors while presenting authentic stories.

Equipped with these skills, youth champions can now engage in community awareness campaigns, school programs, and media outreach, helping to challenge harmful social norms and promote protective cultural practices.

Empowering Communities Through Documentation

Documenting FGM is more than recording incidents,it’s about giving survivors a platform, educating communities, and influencing policy decisions. By capturing real stories, the youth champions contribute to a growing body of evidence that highlights the dangers of FGM and the need for protective interventions.

Looking Ahead

With their new skills, youth champions are ready to lead the conversation and inspire action across Karamoja, Sebei, Kiryandongo, and beyond. Their work demonstrates that storytelling and documentation are powerful tools for advocacy, transforming experiences of harm into narratives of hope and resilience.

By empowering young people to document FGM cases, we are ensuring that no voice goes unheard, and that communities are better equipped to protect girls and promote positive change.https://x.com/NaguruC/status/1981263722912817317
