Yesterday, the Naguru Teenage Centre (NTC) team facilitated a successful Teens Club meeting at Ofua Health Centre III, focusing on body changes during adolescence (growth and development). This interactive session brought together young people to discuss the physical, emotional, and social transformations that occur during this crucial stage of life, fostering knowledge, confidence, and healthy decision-making.
Adolescence is a period of rapid change, where young people experience significant physical growth, hormonal shifts, and emotional development. While these changes are natural, many adolescents have questions, concerns, or misconceptions about their bodies. Teens Clubs provide a safe, supportive space for young people to learn, share experiences, and gain accurate information from trained facilitators.
During the meeting at Ofua HC III, participants actively engaged in discussions about the different stages of puberty, growth patterns, and developmental milestones. Topics included the onset of menstruation, changes in body shape and size, emotional regulation, and healthy habits to support overall growth. By addressing these topics openly, the session helped demystify puberty and reduce stigma associated with natural bodily changes.
The facilitators also emphasized the importance of personal hygiene, nutrition, and mental well-being during adolescence. Practical tips were shared on how to maintain healthy routines, cope with peer pressure, and make informed choices about one’s body. Teens were encouraged to ask questions and participate in exercises that reinforced their understanding of growth and development.
Teens Clubs like this are not just about education—they are community-building platforms where adolescents develop confidence, leadership skills, and peer support networks. By providing consistent engagement, NTC ensures that young people have access to accurate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, enabling them to make safe and informed decisions.
The success of yesterday’s meeting at Ofua HC III highlights the power of interactive learning and youth-centered approaches in promoting adolescent health. By fostering awareness about growth and development, the session contributes to the broader goal of empowering young people to navigate adolescence with confidence, dignity, and resilience.
Through these efforts, NTC continues to strengthen the capacity of teens clubs as vital spaces for learning, dialogue, and empowerment, ensuring that adolescents are equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive.
