Livelihood & Economic Empowerment

Empowering Young People Beyond Health

NTIHC believes that health and livelihood go hand in hand. Programs like SHE SOARS and Empowering AGYW integrate life skills, financial literacy, and vocational training alongside SRHR education. This holistic approach empowers adolescents, especially girls and young women, to make informed decisions while building economic independence. Youth who participate in these programs often report increased confidence, improved negotiation power in relationships, and reduced dependency on exploitative partnerships. By linking SRHR education to income-generating skills, NTIHC gives young people the tools they need to thrive. The Centre’s work with marginalized groups, such as young people living with HIV, ensures that even the most vulnerable adolescents are included in livelihood empowerment initiatives. Tailored support systems foster inclusive economic growth and personal agency.

Strengthening Communities through Youth Leadership

Economic empowerment at NTIHC goes beyond individuals—it strengthens entire communities. Trained youth leaders become mentors and role models, spreading knowledge and hope among their peers. Peer-led savings groups and micro-enterprise ventures foster economic networks that build resilience and reduce SRHR-related vulnerabilities. District engagements further support community buy-in, helping integrate youth economic priorities into district development plans. For example, in Mayuge and Kamuli, NTIHC’s programming has seen communities commit to supporting safe spaces and vocational centers for adolescents. By nurturing economically empowered, health-literate young leaders, NTIHC helps shift communities toward equity, productivity, and youth-driven transformation.
