Today, Uganda pauses to remember. On Janani Luwum Day, we honour the memory of a man whose courage cost him everything Archbishop Janani Luwum, martyred in 1977 for speaking truth to power, for standing against injustice when silence would have been safer.

His was a fearless leader that refused to look away from suffering. A leader rooted in deep faith and an unshakable conviction that every human being deserves dignity, justice, and protection. His subsequent arrest and execution transformed him from a church leader into a national martyr a permanent symbol of integrity over fear.

His final gift to Uganda was not his death, but the example of his life: that true leadership demands courage, that integrity is worth more than safety, and that justice must be pursued even when the cost is high.
