Today, the Naguru Teenage Centre (NTC) joined the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) in conducting support supervision for comprehensive school health outreaches across Makindye Division. The initiative, supported by UNICEF, is part of a larger national effort to improve access to essential health services for school-going children and adolescents.

The supervision exercise focuses on strengthening the coordination and delivery of vital health interventions  including immunization, deworming, and health education  directly within schools. By bringing services closer to learners, this initiative not only promotes good health but also helps to reduce absenteeism, improve concentration, and foster a healthier learning environment.

At the heart of this collaboration lies a shared belief: that a healthy child learns better. Through these school-based outreaches, health workers and educators are working hand in hand to create awareness about preventive health practices, hygiene, nutrition, and the importance of regular medical check-ups. The program also provides a platform to address issues affecting adolescent health, such as menstrual hygiene management and access to accurate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information.

The support supervision component plays a critical role in ensuring that each outreach is effectively implemented. Teams from KCCA, MoH, NTC, and UNICEF assess progress, identify challenges, and offer technical guidance to strengthen service delivery. This hands-on approach promotes accountability and ensures that every learner receives quality care and attention.

During the visits, schools demonstrated remarkable commitment , teachers actively mobilizing students, parents lending their support, and health workers working tirelessly to reach as many children as possible. It’s a powerful reminder that community partnership is the cornerstone of sustainable health outcomes.

Through this initiative, the Government of Uganda and its partners continue to reaffirm their dedication to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  particularly those focused on good health, education, and well-being.

As the outreach continues across schools in Makindye Division, NTC remains steadfast in its mission to empower communities and strengthen health systems that protect the next generation. Because when we invest in children’s health, we invest in Uganda’s future.
