OGRESS: DINNER WITH AMBASSADORS AND HUMAN RIGHTS CHAMPIONS

Last evening, we had the honor of joining the Ambassador of Denmark to Uganda, alongside the UNFPA Uganda Country Representative and dedicated Male Human Rights Champions, for a dinner reflecting on the ongoing work in the #SAYProgramme-supported districts.

Celebrating Collaboration

The dinner was more than a formal gathering, it was a moment to recognize collective efforts in promoting gender equality, youth empowerment, and the protection of human rights. By bringing together ambassadors, representatives, and community champions, the event highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions, international partners, and local advocates in driving sustainable change.

The Role of Male Human Rights Champions

Male Human Rights Champions play a critical role in the #SAYProgramme by modeling positive behavior, challenging harmful social norms, and advocating for equality within their communities. Their work demonstrates that men and boys are essential partners in promoting the rights of women and young people. The dinner provided an opportunity to reflect on successes, share lessons learned, and explore ways to strengthen male engagement across all supported districts.

A Shared Commitment

Discussions during the dinner focused on impact, challenges, and future strategies for the #SAYProgramme. Participants shared stories of transformation, from reducing gender-based violence to encouraging youth participation in decision making processes. The conversations reinforced the idea that sustainable change requires multi-level commitment from policy and funding support to community level advocacy and mentorship.

Looking Forward

As the evening concluded, there was a strong sense of renewed commitment and shared purpose. The gathering reminded everyone that progress is built on collaboration, open dialogue, and a willingness to listen and learn from one another. By reflecting on ongoing efforts and celebrating achievements, the group reaffirmed its dedication to creating safer, more equitable communities for youth and women across Uganda.

Continuing the Journey

The #SAYProgramme continues to serve as a platform for empowering communities, nurturing leaders, and driving social change. Events like this dinner strengthen partnerships and inspire all stakeholders to remain proactive in their roles. Together, these champions both local and international are proving that meaningful change is possible when people unite around a shared vision for equality and justice.
